6 km from Samoëns, following the road along the Giffre, you reach the village of Sixt-Fer à Cheval labelled "One of the most beautiful villages in France".
Most of this municipality is occupied by the nature reserve dominated by Mont Buet (3096 m).
All summer, the Cirque du Fer à Cheval is graced by the presence of many waterfalls, with a climax in June when there are thirty.
The Nature Reserve of Sixt Fer à Cheval is a mecca for mountain tourism, especially in summer (hiking, climbing, Via Ferrata, rafting, mountain biking ...) and mountaineering (see Mountain Guides Office).
The Reserve is classified as a Great National Site.

Places accessible to all

The Gorges de Tines. Conservation Area. Beautiful potholes
Sixt Church( XIII ° century).
The waterfall of Rouget . Conservation Area. Nicknamed the Queen of the Alps and labeled «The most beautiful waterfall in France in 2009», this 100 m fall that flows all year round, is fed by the Torrent de Sales before it jumps into the Giffre des Fonts. Accessible by a motorized road.
The Cirque du Fer à Cheval.Conservation Area. Gigantic cirque of 4 to 5 km in diameter whose steep walls reach 500 to 700 m in height per place. It is the largest mountain circus in the Alps.
Le Bout du Monde. Conservation Area. Cirque located beyond the Cirque du Fer à Cheval, under the glaciers of Ruan and Prazon. It is accessible to all by the bottom of the combe. The Giffre takes its source. Numerous waterfalls.

The Platé Desert. Dominated by the Grande Platières (2480 m), this limestone plateau is covered by one of the largest lapiaz in Europe. You can enjoy a stunning view of the Massif du Mont-Blanc and the Aravis range. Access via the Platières cable car from Flaine or via the GR 96.
